Sustaining the Vision

"Schools Kill Creativity"

As educators push towards 2025, we must continue to include the notion of creativity and keep away from the inaccurate pedagogy of technology for technology's sake. While the integration of online tools and resources will be necessary for the student of 2025, educators must not forget that creativity is what makes humans, humans. As seen in Ken Robin's TED talk "Schools Kill Creativity" (see below), the educational system of the past and present has a tendency to beat out the creative tendencies of children. It is mind boggling that a young child is capable of thinking "outside of the box" while an older student has almost completely lost this ability. As Robins suggests within his lecture, the American educational system is to blame for this stark reality. The educational system of 2025 must work towards rectifying this issue. Finding the tools and resources that allow students to learn the skills necessary to be productive in society, while continuing to allow them to think creatively will be key.
